Everything from the pick-up at the airport until the end in Arusha was perfectly organized by Nelson. If you have allergies or if you don’t like something then just tell them before the trip and your wishes will be respected with pleasure.
We did a great tour through the Tarangire NP, Serengeti NP, Ngorongoro CA and did as well the great hike towards the top of Oldoinyo Lengai. Nelson was happy to organize everything according to our wish-list and so it was very easy to make up our customized trip. The contact while organizing the trip was very straight forward and easy.
–> From price, fun, quality, organization and etc. everything was perfect.

We booked with Get Away last year, and they where awesome! We had so much fun with Dula our driver and guide, when it comes to spotting the animals, he is like a hawk! And has a great knowledge about them. He made sure we are satisfied! We’ve done an 8 day tour in Manyara, Tarangire NP, Serengeti NP, Ngorongoro CA and a special visit to the tribes.
As I said we had so much fun and felt safe all the time. So we really recommend Get Away Safaris

It was a great trip! Definitely recommend doing a Safari with Nelson and Abdullah, we did a 7 days trip in Tanzania with them with lots of different activities (coffee plantation,Safari, meeting tribes, mountain climbing..) and everything was great! Nelson really helped me to plan this trip beforehand by giving me lots of information and once we were there they did their best to make it easy for us! We saw lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes and much more. Camp was such a crazy and nice adventure, nothing more intense than having animals close to our tent. Abdullah really knows everything and always give you lots of interesting facts and information during the safari, the food provided during the safari was also really nice, always different and tasty! Again, thanks a lot guys!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

We do offer Groups Safari but due to many and different safari options, it is difficult to put together groups and give you 100% guarantee that you will have Groups basing on your options. Therefore we only advice you to travel in form a group of at least 2 people and above.

No, we must make preparations for your safari before your trip begins. All safaris must be pre-booked.

Most of our safaris operate on private basis with a minimum of two persons booking, and we recommend not more than 6 persons for maximum comfort and guaranteed window seats.

The only additional item you need for the safari is perhaps binoculars. Other than that, the clothing you have for your climb is sufficient.

This is a fee imposed on single travelers by the hotels, lodges and camps. Our safari prices are quoted based on two people sharing accommodation. If someone takes a room by themselves they have to pay the per-person price plus the single supplement fee.

When you contact us for a quote, we will provide you different levels of luxury for your safaris. The most different one is the standard one, which is included in the daily price of the safari. It normally refers to public campsites where we will bring our own tents (you do not need to put them up, our staff will do it for you), camping equipment (sleeping bags, pillows, mats, sheets, etc.), a cook to prepare your meals, food and cooking equipment.

Now, if you upgrade to any other level of accommodation, the level of comfort will increase drastically. On any level above the basic one, you will stay in private tented camps or lodges, with large tents or rooms with plenty of space, real beds, private en-suite toilets and showers. In this case, we will not send a cook with you because all the meals will be prepared by the camps/lodges (full board is always included).

There will be more than one option for upgrades, ones more expensive than the others, but they will all have beds and en-suite bathroom as mentioned above. The main difference between further higher levels of luxury will be the comfort level, the quality of the tents/rooms, decoration, service level, quality of the restaurant, location of the camp/lodge in the park, etc. The higher the level, the more comfort and luxurious your stay will be.

Once we have designed your itinerary (only Kilimanjaro trek or also including transfers, flights, hotels in town, etc.) we will send you a contract with everything. We require a down payment which can be paid via bank transfer. The remaining payment can be paid using the same method or, if you prefer, can be made once you arrive in Tanzania, in cash.

– Up to 30 days before departure: Penalty of 20%
– Up to 21 days before departure: Penalty of 50%
– Less than 7 days before departure of no show: Penalty of 100%

  • Tips for the guide (the industry guidelines is $10 USD per person per day, but it is ultimately up to the client’s description).
  • International visa for Tanzania (can be obtained on arrival in Tanzania for $50 USD per person)
  • * Visas for Tanzania or medicine/vaccination

We cannot legally provide medical advice as we are not a health institution, but most travelers take vaccine for Yellow Fever and take prophylaxis pills for Malaria. Some travelers do not take the prophylaxis pills and instead protect themselves by covering their body at night, using mosquito repellant and/or mosquito nets. If you plan to go to Zanzibar or if you come from an Endemic yellow fever country (or do a stop-over there) we recommend taking the yellow fever vaccine as it may be requested upon arrival at the airport.

Yes, it does not matter if you do a budget camping safari or upgrade to a higher level of accommodation, we are able to accommodate any specific request (vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher, gluten-fee, specific allergies, etc.). These are very common requests and not an issue at all though we prefer clients to be specific and let us know his/request concerning special dietary requirement.

Whilst there is an inherent risk whilst travelling on safari and in Africa, it is no more dangerous than travelling anywhere else in the world. You will be in wildlife rich areas most of the time you are on safari and will come into relatively close contact with wild animals. The camps are, however, safe and the guides that will be accompanying you are well trained. Very good medical air rescue services are available and the camps and lodges are in good radio contact with them at all times.

Mosquitoes which carry malaria are prevalent in most areas of Sub-Saharan Africa. They will mainly be encountered in Southern Africa during the hot wet season of November to March. During the drier months of the year (May – October), there are not may mosquitoes around. You should still see your doctor for a prophylactic before traveling to Africa at any time of the year.

Power in the lodges varies from area to area; for the most part 12 volt battery power is provided, which is charged by generators whilst you are out of camp during the day. You will be able to charge your camera batteries whilst staying in a lodge. On the camping and canoeing safaris the lights are limited to hurricane lamps and flashlights, for charging batteries etc. you can use an adapter to plug into the vehicle power outlet.

All the camps and lodges that we use in Africa supply filtered and bottled water. We do encourage people not to over use the bottled water, for environmental reasons; it is always a good idea to take a personal water flask with you, which can be filled up by the camps clean water supply.

Due to the use of light aircraft for flights between camps in all countries, strict weight limits on luggage are enforced for safety reasons. The limit is 15kgs (33lbs)

Absolutely, we specialize in tailor-made itineraries. We thrive on custom designing interesting itineraries.

Tanzania’s weather is typically sunny, warm and dry although there are seasonal variations. December to March is our summer and the hottest time of the year when temperatures can easily reach 30 to 35 degrees Celsius (85 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit), particularly in the coastal regions including Zanzibar where humidity is also present. The onset of autumn and some rain in April and May helps to reduce temperatures which typically will be in the range of 24 to 28 degrees Celsius (75 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit). From June through to September is our winter and temperatures further reduce to 15 to 24 degrees Celsius (60 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit) before spring arrives in October and temperatures climb back up to 24 to 28 degrees Celsius (75 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit). Please note that the temperatures given are intended for guidance purposes and are not definitive.

Following the art of parking light we recommend the following things during your safari.

  • Khaki, green, beige and neutral colors (dark blue and black clothing should be avoided as it attracts Tsetse flies)
  • Shirts with long sleeves (even in summer, as protection from the sun, mosquitoes and Tsetse flies)
  • T shirts
  • Shorts or a light skirt
  • Jeans or safari trousers for evenings and cooler days
  • A jacket and sweater are recommended for early morning and evening game drives
  • Lightweight waterproof jacket
  • Swim and beachwear
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Sunblock, sunglasses, hat, moisturizer and lip-salve are all essentials  Strong but natural insect repellent
  • Camera equipment
  • Good quality safari clothing is available in safari shops
  • Bath towels and emergency toilet paper (only if you do a budget safari. Otherwise the hotels will provide the towels)
