Just assume being at the middle of nowhere watching the stars shining from the African sky, lion king roaring from the distance, laughing hyenas in the darkness, insects whistling their tunes of the night, birds singing their sweet songs during your wakeup call ready for another day in the wild Africa. Such scenarios and others are what camping safaris in Tanzania are all about, if you are fond of such adventurous expedition this is your chance. Tents, sleeping bags, and cots are provided, so all you will need is your travel backpack!
Tented camps safari in Tanzania is an authentic way to experience the wilderness at close hand without sacrificing too much comfort. The level of luxury can array from comfortable to ultra-luxury. The camps we selected are small with a cosy atmosphere, situated at stunning place in or around the national parks. They have private spacious canvas tents with a solid base, proper beds and private baths and meals. The advantage of tented camps safaris is that it is more adventurous and takes you closer to nature. You can overlook wildlife from your dining table and be surrounded by the sounds of wilderness. In a tented camp you get the real African safari experience, something different from home. You can soak yourself in the wilderness, often with unforgettable panoramic views over the African plains. It is also more intimate than lodges as camps generally accommodate only 10 to 25 guests.
Lodging safaris are for the discerning traveler who wishes to explore the wilderness in comfort and stress free while enjoying the extraordinary Tanzanian wildlife. The lodging safari is a wonderful choice for families with smaller children or those with different levels of ability, as they are abundant in creature comforts and most are designed for accessibility. Some lodges also have swimming pools, which are fabulous for relaxation at the end of the day and great for children who need time to play in between the drives. Some of these lodges provide vibrant cultural performances and afterhours social experiences, adding to the list of fun activities on your African dream safari. As with everywhere you might stay on a safari tour with Unique Pathway, the dining experience will be top-notch, prepared by expert local chefs, and feature your favorite familiar foods, the local bounty, and some African dishes for you to try, if you so wish.
Top Tanzania Safari Parks
Serengeti National Park
Go in search of the Big 5 animal in Serengeti National Park on our Serengeti Safari Tour. It is Tanzania’s most popular safari destination – a world heritage site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. The park is famed for its annual great migration, when hundreds of thousands of zebra and Thomson’s gazelle join more than three million wildebeest on their movement to find fresh grazing. Even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti park offers arguably the most scintillating game viewing in Africa. It has been voted the best African Safari Destination year on year.
Teeming with wildlife including great herds of buffalo and African elephant, towers of giraffe and thousands of eland, warthog, topi, heatebeest, impala and Grant’s gazelle, as well as a wide population of birds. The spectacle of predator versus prey dominates Tanzania’s greatest park, which boasts the largest lion population in Africa. Lion prides feast on the abundance of plain grazers, while solitary leopards hang-out on the acacia trees lining the Seronera River and a high density of cheetahs prowl the South Eastern plains.
The nutrient-rich land of the Ngorongoro Crater was formed from a fracture in the Rift Valley over 15 million years ago, and this extinct volcano is now home to an abundance of wildlife, including the Big 5 and a myriad of bird species. Rise early to make your way to the upper rim of the caldera at dawn and descend down a steep track to the grassy plains and marshes of the basin floor below as you keep a look out for African elephant, buffalo and black rhino on our Tanzania Wildlife experience. You may even spot a lion king watching from the sidelines as hippo and zebra bathe in the shallow freshwater lakes, and keep your eyes peeled for an elusive cheetah camouflaged against the golden savanna plains.
Tarangire National Park
Often overshadowed by The Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire has extremely large concentrations of game in the peak months (July-February) and a fraction of the visitors that go to any of the other northern Tanzania safari parks. The game viewing is superb and the atmosphere and habitat is completely different from the other national parks.
Tarangire is surprisingly large, giving visitors more space and the most intimate game-viewing environment of all the parks in the region. Tarangire National Park is a sanctuary for an incredibly large number of elephant and animals congregate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. Majestic baobab trees and fascinating landscapes are a feature of the park, as well as a great diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo and over 6000 elephant.
